The 5 year permit that has allowed PSEG to slaughter BILLIONS of fish every
year by not building closed cooling systems at their two nuclear plants in
southern New Jersey, is over.

 

The permit is now up for renewal or even reversal. 

 

The two nuclear plants, Salem Units 1 and 2, use 3 BILLION gallons of
Delaware Bay water each day to cool the nuke plants. This once-through
cooling kills fish by temperature change, by being smashed on the screens
and the cooling tube walls.

 

Fish species impacted include:

Herrings (alewife & blueback), Atlantic croaker, American Shad, Spot,
Striped bass. White perch, Bay anchovy, and 

Weakfish.

 

We only have 330 names so far. We're trying to gather 1000s of signatures
both via the internet and on hard copy to help convince the NJ Department of
Environmental Protection to finally do the right thing and Stop the Salem
Nuke Fish Slaughter.
