A must read for everyone. This (and other places just as contaminated now) is where the uranium comes from to power Diablo. This is the start of the nuclear chain and it doesn't get any nicer. Molly

  ABOUT THIS SERIES
From 1944 to 1986, 3.9 million tons of uranium ore were dug and blasted from Navajo soil, nearly all of it for America's atomic arsenal. Navajos inhaled radioactive dust, drank contaminated water and built homes using rock from the mines and mills. Many of the dangers persist to this day. This four-part series examines the legacy of uranium mining on the Navajo reservation.

SUNDAY: Unaware of the danger

MONDAY: Toxic water

TUESDAY: Botched cleanup

WEDNESDAY: New technology

"We've never been 'stay the course,' George." - George Bush to George Stephanopoulos on ABC This Week October 22, 2006

“Cowardice asks the question: is it safe? Expediency asks the question: is it politic? Vanity asks the question: is it popular? But conscience asks the question: is it right? And there comes a time when one must take a position that is neither safe, nor politic, nor popular- but one must take it simply because it is right.” : Martin Luther King Jr. 1929-1968
