Dear Friends,
&nbsp;
I’m launching an exploratory campaign to run for Mayor of San Diego in 2008. I plan to become an official candidate on February 6, 2008. This is the first day to file as an official candidate. 
&nbsp;
To get right to the point, I’m going to need your help and money to run a winning campaign. (See below for details on how you can help with both.)

Why do I want to be mayor?
&nbsp;
We live in dangerous times and I have a plan to help. 
&nbsp;
If the human family is to have much of a future we are going to have to create economies and ways of life that keep us and our planet’s life-support system healthy.
&nbsp;
In our own City, County and Region, we are especially vulnerable because we import 98% of our energy and 90% of our water and food.
&nbsp;
To eliminate this vulnerability I will set in motion an economic plan to make the City of San Diego renewable energy, water and food self-sufficient and generally more life-support sustaining. I’ll also look to partner with other communities wishing to do the same. In today’s uncertain world, becoming renewable energy, water and food self-sufficient is key to our City and Region’s prosperity and security.
&nbsp;
My larger vision is that as our City and Region become renewable energy, water and food self-sufficient, the results will be so attractive economically, health wise and environmentally that the whole world will want to do it. As this happens we will find ourselves the world leader in helping cities and countries around the world develop sustainable economies that are renewable energy, water and food self-sufficient.

Of course I’ll solve our other critical problems like building affordable housing, repairing roads, sewers, storm drains, reducing crime, reducing trash, expanding recycling, reducing pollution, building libraries and increasing their hours, reducing traffic, cleaning up our ocean, and getting our City out of debt. In fact, becoming energy, water and food self-sufficient will generate the money needed to fund such projects. Independent Campaigns:

If an individual or group has a lot of money to spend in the support of a candidate and doesn’t want to be restricted by campaign contribution limits, they can run an “Independent Campaign”. An Independent Campaign has to be officially sanctioned and completely independent of the candidate it aims to benefit. But in general, an independent campaign can do anything a candidate’s campaign can do as long as it raises its own money and remains independent of the candidate it is supporting. Contact San Diego’s Office of City Clerk, the San Diego District Attorney’s Office, and the Fair Political Practices Commission to find out how to conduct a legal Independent Campaign if this course of action appeals to you.
