Dear Fellow Opponents to the Yucca Mountain radioactive waste dump proposal,

On-line live viewing of the legal proceedings on Nevada’s ‘Motion to Strike’ the certification of DOE’s posting of Yucca Mountain licensing documents will be available at:

[http://www.cox96.net/] www.cox96.net ; starts at Noon EST, 11am C, 10 M, 9 P.

(But those of you in D.C., don't get too engrossed in the webcast -- please come to the DOE Yucca hearing from 2 to 5 pm at the Metro Center Marriott at 775 12th St. NW and submit oral comments! Let me know if you need sample talking points.)

The U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission's (NRC) licensing board for the Yucca Mountain license application proceeding will hold an important hearing at 12 p.m. noon Eastern on Wed., Dec. 5th. While the actual physical hearing is taking place in Las Vegas, Nevada, a live webcast beginning at 12 p.m. Eastern time is supposed to be viewable at [http://www.cox96.net] www.cox96.net.

ADDITIONAL INFO. ON NRC LICENSING BOARD HEARING:

The NRC licensing board, called the PAPO board (Pre-License Application Presiding Officers), will hear the State of Nevada's motion to strike the U.S. Department of Energy's certification that its document submission is complete leading up to its anticipated June 30, 2008 (or sooner) license application to NRC for permission to construct, open, and operate the dump at Yucca. The State of Nevada succeeded in convincing the NRC PAPO board to reject DOE's 2004 attempt to file its license application, a victory that has delayed the Yucca dump by three additional years. We need to repeat that victory!

WHAT YOU CAN DO TO HELP STOP YUCCA MOUNTAIN:

Call your U.S. Representative and U.S. Senators and tell them to oppose any funding for the Yucca Mountain Project in the impending Energy and Water Appropriations Bill in Congress (Capitol Switchboard 202-224-3121). Urge them to re-direct the one to two million dollars per day proposed to be wasted at the dead end Yucca Mountain Project towards safeguarding and securing the high-level radioactive wastes stored on-site at reactors across the U.S. See [http://www.citizen.org/documents/PrinciplesSafeguardingIrradiatedFuel.pdf] http://www.citizen.org/documents/PrinciplesSafeguardingIrradiatedFuel.pdf for more information. Please let me know if your group would like to sign onto this statement if it hasn't already.
