Job Title Organizer - Energy Program
General Description:
The Organizer works with the Director and other staff to develop and
implement legislative, organizing, coalition, and media strategies
and campaigns in support of Public Citizen's goals in promoting
affordable, clean, and safe energy. This includes supporting
renewable energy, fighting nuclear power, and advocating strong
regulation over energy companies to protect consumers from abusive practices.
Specific Responsibilities:
* Inform and assist in coordinating and developing national, state,
and local coalitions to fight nuclear power, promote renewable
energy, and lead campaigns to re-regulate energy markets at the state level.

* Manage and conduct research, media and organizing-related
writing. Produce educational materials including fact sheets,
action alerts, news releases, research documents and
reports. Maintain familiarity with a diverse set of issues and
research products.
* Conduct face to face meetings with grassroots activists and state
and local officials; monitor, track, and analyze relevant federal and
state legislation.
* Occasional travel to key communities to develop and carry out
grassroots organizing, research, and coalition-building activities.
* Develop and maintain support systems such as e-mail list-servs,
webpage, and databases in consultation with the director and system
experts to effectively inform activists and coalition partners our campaign.
* Respond to information requests from the public and coalition members.
Professional requirements:
* Education: College degree required
* Knowledge: Familiarity with consumer, energy and environmental
issues; research techniques; advocacy campaigns, how the media works
and what is newsworthy.
* Work experience: Minimum 1 year experience in advocacy of public
policy issues, grassroots field organizing, research, media outreach,
supervisory/training experience helpful.
* Skills: Excellent written and oral communication skills; strong
interpersonal, strategic planning and training skills; excellent
research, analytic and organizational skills; proficiency in web
research, data-base development, listservs, word processing, and
other computer systems.
* Capabilities: Ability to think creatively and quickly to respond to
political developments, to take advantage of breaking news;
demonstrated leadership capability; ability to work well with a wide
variety of people and to coordinate diverse tasks; ability to present
complex and technical topics to a mass audience and grassroots
activists; can-do attitude and commitment to public interest work.
* Condition: Strong interest and commitment to the public
interest. Long hours and occasional travel.
