I can only send to 100 at a time, so I am breaking this up.

If you are one either the nuke-net list or the no new nukes list and would like to be included, please email me back and I will add you. Otherwise, I will remove those two lists from further emails, and ask everyone else to also. I know this is not anti-nuclear info, but I think it is such a good idea, grass roots activism to reduce the need for nuclear power plants. From this initial mailing, I hope we will be able to establish a list like those two that we can all just click on that list and reach everyone who wants to participate-pate. Of course, all of you have other people that I don't have, so feel free to forward this and ask them if they would also like to participate.

Sandy and everyone,,

Sandy, I did not see your earlier email. Sorry. I am forwarding this one on, with your letter below, and ask everyone to punch reply all so that we will all share our efficiency and conservation tips. Such a good idea. Anyone who does not want to be a part of this, just email me back and I will remove you from the list. This is the efficiency & conservation network.

Here're my tips. Please add your's.

1. I changed all my light bulbs to screw in fluorescents. just that saved me about $30 per month, no kidding. I also try to cut off all my lights except in the room we are in.

2. We added insulation in the attic. I used R 30, which cost a great deal more than R13, but I think I will continue to save for many years.

3. We had to add a new roof, hail damage helped out, so we chose a WHITE one.

4. To save water, we've eliminated watering the lawn. That saves me grass cutting money, too, as it doesn't grow so fast, which means there is less fuel used, hence it cuts our carbon foot print.

5. I added leaves to my vegetable garden, as a mulch, so that has eliminated the need to water it. Now if I could just find out how to keep the deer out, they are so bad, they even have eaten my tomatoes. Guess they are really thirsty

6. This has nothing to do with the utility bills, but in 2003 we bought a Honda Civic Hybrid. We average 42.3 miles per gallon. I try to bunch my errands, and make a round trip to everything, only using the car when absolutely necessary.

We still need to add storm windows, and will do that when we can find the ones like the ones on our Nashville house.

Now, it's your turn, everyone.

From: John Hepler <jhepler at twlakes.net>
To: Dolph Honicker <djhonicker at msn.com>
Subject: Conservation anyone?
Date: Sun, 29 Jul 2007 18:51:03 -0500
>Dear Jeanine,
> One month ago I sent you this. Maybe you did not see it. I got no
>response.
> I must say, it seems to me it is critically important if you want to
>stop nuclear powerplants-- what the hell is your alternative?
>
>Sandy Hepler
>
>Dear Jeanine,
> Please feel free to forward the following to your list if you wish. By
>the way, I think Murfreesboro got awakened by the recent revelations and we
>will be galddened by any action.
>
*****************************************
>
> A few months ago, Faith Y and Sarah S encouraged me to write an op=ed
>after reading my letter to the TVA on their 10-year energy planning. I
>thought, okay and proceeded to start studying on the topic:
> Nuclear is not green, not carbon-free and not needed IF we can do the
>right thing. What is the right thing? Conservation and Efficiency. [This
>also cuts deep into King Coal, by the way].
> This I think is the really fundamental center of the entire Energy
>Policy equation. WE ALL NEED TO KNOW THIS.
>
> As I began to research, my heart sank. I thought I could find it all
>presented simply and clearly with footnotes‹ thus saving me a lot of
>legwork-- and still I hope it
is out there. But this is a more complex
>matter than we would think. It needs more than an op-ed‹ we need a Primer,
>NOT on Solar and Windmills and all that fun stuff, but on the most basic,
>most economical, all-fat-pared-with Occam¹s Razor vision.
> I¹ve had to drop this. I¹ve been crushed by work, just to get back out
>of the red. I have a wonderful project that is consuming most of the rest of
>my time. And spare money.
> Conservation and Efficiency.
> I have a start on this Primer, but cannot carry it. I¹d be glad to share
>with anyone interested. And I am NOT lead researcher in this.
>
> Coordinated research by email seems ideally suited to a community of
>interest separated by geography. Can this be done by this,
Jeanines e-list
>group? Or maybe there is a more important issue here, you tell me.
>
> Sandy Hepler
>
>
>
