FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

COLLIER COUNTY CITIZENS INTERVENE IN
NUCLEAR PLANT HEARING
January 6, 2008
Naples, Florida
Collier County residents Jan and Bob Krasowski have been recognized as
Intervenors
at The Florida Public Service Commission’s Needs Determination Hearing for
Florida Power and Light’s two new Nuclear Power Plants proposed for FP&L’s
Turkey
Point energy compound, just south of Miami, Florida, on Biscayne Bay. The
hearing is
scheduled for January 30, 31 and February 1, 2008 in Tallahassee.
The Krasowski’s intervention status permits them full participation in the
hearing
allowing them to cross examine witnesses regarding testimony and exhibits.
The couple participated as Intervenors in last year’s Glades County Coal
burning power
plant Needs Determination Hearing which culminated, in June, in a 4-0 no
vote by the
Public Service Commission denying that proposal.
The Krasowski’s position in the Turkey Point nuclear plant hearing is
similar to the one
they represented at the Glades Coal Plant Hearing; essentially, there is no
need to build
any new polluting power plants because there are already enough plants that,
if
coupled with new efficiency and conservation strategies including renewable
energy
technologies and distributive energy programs, can meet the energy needs of
Floridians
well into the future, especially now that State and FPL customer growth has
slowed.
There are two opportunities for the public to voice their opinion and
provide testimony
regarding the Nuclear Plants; First at 4pm, January 9th at Miami Dade
College, Wolfson
Campus, Bldg 1000, Room 1261 (Auditorium), 300 NE 2nd Ave, Miami and
Then at 9:30AM at the Florida Public Service Commission January 30th hearing
in
Tallahassee.
As long time advocates for the efficient management of resources, clean
energy and
sustainable environomic practices and policies Jan and Bob Krasowski now do
most of
their work under the banner of The Florida Alliance for a Clean Environment.
The
Alliance is a grass roots non-profit organization they founded that
identifies its mission as
advocating for the positions mentioned above in front of the Public and
Government
policy makers. Over the past three decades they have interfaced, in Public
forums, with
many from County Governments to Governors as well as State appointed
commissions,
administrators and policy makers.
Their latest effort has been an open letter and petition to Governor Crist
and lead State
energy policy makers calling for the development of a complete life cycle
profile of each
type of efficiency and energy generation option available, rating those
options via
comparative analysis according to cost and environmental factors; then
establishing
a hierarchy of cleanest most efficient options first, to be implemented
across the state
before any major polluting plants are built.
Bob and Jan are available to speak about clean energy, efficient resource
management
and why nuclear energy is not an answer to our energy needs. They can be
reached at
239-434-0786 or 239-963-6285 or by Email at _minimushomines at aol.com or
