"I never thought I'd live long enough to fight this stuff twice but here it
comes again and I'm not dead yet."

I intervened in Delaware's (DP&L) proposal to build a Hight Tem.Gas Cooled
reactor ala Fort St Vrain (which never worked and is shut down for good,
goggle it ) that was in the 1970's of course I won and been busy ever
since. 86 but not dead yet either !!! So, keep truckin..

Hey Jim,

I watched today's proceedings on the Florida channel. It's a 420 mile trip
to Tallahassee from my home in SW Florida.I go up there only when I can
justify the trip and today's meeting, "the same business-as-usual sound-bite
platitude stuff" as you've called it, didn't justify a trip.

My "ead it and weep"comment was more sarcasm than despair. Your right
thought we must continue to take action.

Jim, which Jim are you? Do you live in Tallahassee? Are you affiliated with
anyone in particular?

Thanks for the email with the PSC'S release. I have posted itto

I was there at the PSC-Progress Energy show this morning and it was the same
business-as-usual sound-bite platitude stuff we've been dealing with for
years. I did get a chance to be interviewed on video by AP, Capitol News
Service and Tampa Bay/Central Florida channels 9 & 13. Hope it gets some
play. I'm sure my 81-year old dad will call and tell me to get a haircut if
he sees it!

Don't weep! Take action!! I never thought I'd live long enough to fight this
stuff twice but here it comes again and I'm not dead yet.

FPSC Approves Need for Two New Nuclear Units at Progress Levy County
Facility

TALLAHASSEE b Floridabs Public Service Commission (PSC) today approved a
petition by Progress Energy Florida (Progress) for a determination of need
for two new nuclear units at an energy complex to be constructed in Levy
County, Florida.

The new complex will be located about ten miles north of the companybs
Crystal River Energy Complex and eight miles inland from the Gulf of Mexico
on Floridabs west coast. The two new nuclear units, Units 1 and 2, are
projected to come online in 2016 and 2017 and generate 2,200 megawatts (MW),
enough to power about 1.3 million average residential homes using 1,200 kWh
per month.

bPursuing nuclear generation helps to diversify Floridabs fuel supply and
meet the statebs growing energy needs,b said PSC Chairman Matthew M. Carter
II. "As directed by the Legislature, annual nuclear cost recovery
proceedings will allow the Commission to monitor the project, including
appropriate checks and balances, to make sure it continues to be in the
customers' best interest."

The new units are projected to satisfy the generation needs of Progress
through 2023 while emitting zero greenhouse gases and reducing Floridabs
dependence on natural gas and fuel oil. The company also intends to increase
demand-side management programs and renewable energy contracts.

In making its determination, the Commission considered the need for electric
system reliability and integrity, base-load power, adequate electricity at a
reasonable cost, and whether the proposed units are the most cost-effective
alternative available. The Commission also considered whether renewable
energy sources or conservation measures were available to the utility that
might mitigate the need for the proposed plant.

A service hearing was held in Crystal River in April to receive public
testimony, and the public was provided an opportunity to testify at the
beginning of the formal technical hearing in Tallahassee on May 21.

The PSC is committed to making sure that Florida's consumers receive their
electric, natural gas, telephone, water, and wastewater services in a safe,
affordable, and reliable manner. The PSC exercises regulatory authority over
utilities in the areas of rate base/economic regulation; competitive market
oversight; and monitoring of safety, reliability, and service.
