Dear Friends,
After bombarding you the past several days with e-mails about nuclear
subsidies, radioactive waste and the like, we thought you might like a
change of pace. Below is a message from our friends at Brave New
Foundation and The Nation magazine who have produced a new documentary
series that brings together young activists with veteran activists
(including NIRS supporter Bonnie Raitt) talking together about how to
create change. Also, there is a new "local hero" award that will be
given to an effective young activist-get your nominations in. Details
below.

Dear Fellow Progressive,
Who are your heroes?
Van Jones on green jobs? Pete Seeger's 70 years of activism? 17-year old
Ava Lowery who has been protesting the Iraq war since the age of 14?
Brave New Foundation and The Nation magazine have teamed together to
produce This Brave Nation, a documentary series in 6 parts that
celebrates these remarkable champions of the progressive movement and
now we want you to nominate your heroes.
This Brave Nation is what happens when the premiere magazine for
progressives in America teams up with the country's most revolutionary
media pioneer. Bonnie Raitt is featured in the second episode in
conversation with Dolores Huerta! You will also see Tom Hayden, Carl
Pope, and Pete Seeger in one-on-one conversations with rising
progressive stars like Majora Carter, Van Jones, Naomi Klein, Ava
Lowery, and Anthony Romero. Check out the first episode on June 1st at
the Brave Nation site and then be sure to tune in each Sunday through
mid-July to see the other episodes in the series.
The leaders featured in This Brave Nation are our heroes. Now, we want
to know who your heroes are! The Nation and Brave New Foundation are
ALSO creating the Brave Nation Award - presented to the country's most
inspiring local hero from a pool of candidates nominated through an
online contest and selected by the ten featured heroes themselves. Who
do you know who is making a change at the local level? Take a minute to
think about it. Do you know someone who speaks for those who cannot? Is
there someone working to make your community a cleaner space in which to
live? Are you actively working to make this world a more just place? The
Brave Nation Award will recognize one of these exceptional individuals.
We want to be inspired by YOU. Go to www.bravenation.com and nominate
one of your heroes.
This series will be available free-of-charge over the internet, but
there will be DVDs available. For a $15 donation, we will give you 2
copies of the series, $30 for 5 or $50 for ten. Keep one for yourself
and donate the other copies to local schools, libraries and young people
in your life. To donate and receive a DVD, go to:

Join with us, in This Brave Nation!
Yours,
Robert Greenwald, Katrina vanden Heuvel
and the Brave New Foundation and The Nation teams
